The Cocktail Hour

In these unprecedented times of social contact being discouraged worldwide, the only thing to do is to become resourceful, resilient, creative and innovative!

We must find new ways to take care of our basic needs. If we think about Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, it is our physiological needs that need to be taken care of first (air, water, food, shelter, clothing). This is followed by our safety needs (employment, resources, health, property). Not for a long time have we seen such widespread concern across the western world for satisfying these first two rungs of needs.

The third rung in Maslow’s hierarchy is the need for love and belonging. Once we have taken care of our more basic needs we crave friendship, intimacy, family and a sense of belonging. While practising self isolation, or at least minimising social contact, some of us will begin to feel unhinged. Almost all of us need connection to feel ok. Having a laugh and sharing a story is important regardless of the strife and chaos that surround.

For this reason I am implementing The Cocktail Hour. And you’re invited!

Pour yourself a drink and join me and a small group of others in an online conversation (video and audio) at 5pm any or every Friday. This is akin to the old ‘after work drinks’ on a Friday night. It’s an hour in the week when you can just relax and unwind.

It’s completely free. I’ve invested in the software and it won’t cost you a thing, only the price of your drink. Alcohol is not compulsory - your drink is your choice - join us with a tea if you like!

I’m going to continue The Cocktail Hour until it’s safe to re-enter the real world cocktail lounges and bars. If you’d like to join us for one or more Fridays, just email me to let me know and I’ll send you the link.
