Colour Analysis
In-person + online consultation
Want your skin to look clear and your eyes to sparkle? Just as the wrong colour can overpower you, emphasise dark circles or dull your hair and eyes – the right colours make you look fresh and radiant.
As a personal style specialist and experienced personal colour consultant in Melbourne, I’ve helped many clients discover a colour palette that suits them perfectly and would love to do the same for you.
I offer a range of online and in-person Colour Analysis sessions for both individuals and groups.
-
We'll start with a short conversation about your style, lifestyle, and goals.
Using professional colour drapes, we’ll assess your skin, hair, and eyes to reveal the colours that enhance you most.
You’ll experience first-hand how different shades can brighten your complexion, emphasise your features, and influence your overall look.
We'll build your personal colour palette — practical, wearable, and aligned with your natural colouring and personality.
Sessions are held either online or at my Carlton studio. I have packages available for both individuals and small group bookings.
-
You’ll leave with:
A personalised colour swatch (around 50 hand-selected colours)
An explanatory guide to applying your colours to clothing, accessories, hair and makeup
Practical strategies for mixing and matching outfits with ease
Confidence to shop more sustainably — saving money and building a wardrobe you love
Think of it as a long-term investment in your style — and yourself.
-
If you had a colour consultation more than 10 years ago, it’s a good idea to have a new one as your colouring changes over time. We notice this first in our hair, but our skin and eyes change too.

“I was amazed how quickly Donna was able to narrow down my colouring range... I left the session knowing more about what suits my skin colouring, the new colours I can explore and the potential combinations I can try. She gave me the confidence to try new colours and different combinations. Thank you Donna!”
Colour Analysis: The Next Step
In-person consultation
So you’ve had a colour analysis and you’ve got your swatch. What next? Do you know how to combine colours to best reflect your value contrast? How about your colour contrast? Do you know how to apply your swatch to choosing prints? How do you put it all to best use?
Even though we touch on these concepts during your Colour Analysis session, I acknowledge there’s a lot to take in. This one-on-one session in your own home will see you reach next level in colour! I’ll help you create the best colour combinations possible, using your swatch and applying this to your own clothes.
This is an opportunity to ensure you can put everything you’ve learnt in your Colour Analysis consultation into practice at home, with support and guidance by your side!
-
This one-on-one session is all about practical colour application. We’ll use your own clothes and your swatch to explore:
How to combine colours that suit your contrast levels
How to use your palette to choose prints
How to coordinate outfits using value contrast
How to bring your swatch to life in your real wardrobe
It’s your chance to ask questions, experiment, and make colour work for you — not just in theory, but in practice.
-
Choosing colours that suit you is just the beginning. Coordination is the next level. Getting your value contrast right — and understanding how much colour you can wear at once — helps you create outfits that really work.
Once I understood this myself, everything changed. This session is designed to help you make that same shift.
-
Even if you and your friend have the same colour palette, the way you each apply it can be completely different.
That’s because your value contrast and colour contrast are personal. This session helps you understand how to apply your palette based on what works for you — not just the colours themselves.
-

Colour Practice: Let’s Shop
In-person consultation
Now that you’ve had a colour analysis and you’re beginning to master putting your own clothes together, let’s take it a step further and take your skills into the wild…
Can you spot the right colours when you’re out shopping? Why doesn’t a print with your best colours always work? What shades do you want to add next to your wardrobe?
This session is designed to help you apply everything you’ve learned in your Colour Analysis consultation — with zero pressure to buy. We’ll visit a few shops together while you practise identifying your colours in the real world. I’ll be there to guide you, answer questions, and give you challenges to test your eye. Think of it as a game, not a shopping trip — because the goal isn’t to purchase, it’s to learn.
-
We’ll head out to a few local shops and explore how your swatch translates into garments, accessories, and prints. During this guided session, you’ll:
Test your ability to spot colours from your palette
Learn how to assess tricky items like prints and blended colours
Discover why some “right” colours still feel off
Build confidence applying your colour knowledge in a real-world setting
And no — you don’t have to buy a thing.
-
Seeing colour in context — with lighting, fabric, and other variables — is a different skill to analysing it on a swatch.
This session gives you live, low-stakes practice with immediate support. It’s about reinforcing what you know, noticing what still confuses you, and consolidating everything in a real-life environment.
The goal is to strengthen your eye, sharpen your instincts, and make colour feel second nature.
-
This is not a personal shopping session — I won’t be advising you on what to buy
You’re welcome to browse or play — no purchases necessary
This service is available only to clients who’ve had a Colour Analysis with me

Colour: The Secret to Creating a Sustainable Wardrobe
Hardcover book
It’s time to think more carefully about the clothes we buy, reduce compulsive shopping, and move away from fast fashion.
This book shows you how to build a streamlined wardrobe you love by applying colour theory, drawn from art and design principles, to your clothing choices. Using colour as a design tool, you’ll learn how to create a cohesive, functional wardrobe — and curb the endless cycle of compulsive shopping.
Beautifully illustrated by Alfia Galimova and photographed by William Chute, with design by Jodie Horne, the book features real-life models of diverse ages, ethnicities, and genders.
The book was launched on 30 March 2021 as part of Melbourne Design Week, an initiative of the Victorian Government in collaboration with the NGV. The theme for 2021 was ‘Design the World You Want’ which I contributed to as a passionate advocate for a more sustainable and ethical fashion industry as well as a colour enthusiast.
This book is available in hardcopy and ships internationally as well as within Australia.
Photos from the launch: designer Jodie Horne, illustrator Alfia Galimova, photographer William Chute , co-host Nina Gbor, assistant extraordinaire and book model Briar Jasper-Batson, interviewer and book model Brad Inness.
