Country house casual
I’ve had the most incredibly relaxing week with two excellent friends and their beautiful dogs in their country house. The weather has been unseasonably warm, or hot I should say! The highs have been in the mid to high 20s and the humidity has also been high. When I packed my carry on case for my 32 day Europe trip I didn’t expect it to be this warm here so I didn’t have a lot of summer clothes but I had enough to get me through.
I’ve been interchanging between three bottoms and four tops. The pants I brought (jeans included) are all trans-seasonal so breezy, loose and light enough to wear on these sunny days and the tops I wore with them are very lightweight; either silk or light cotton. The ‘slippers’ I bought in Copenhagen (see last post and my disgust with the airline offering!) have been a godsend as they’ve actually functioned as summer shoes and, being made of cotton, are really breathable, light and comfortable.
The only thing I wished I’d had was an extra tank for wearing under my tops at the cooler ends of the day. I brought one but could have done with another one. It was not a big deal however as I could wear my bomber over my shoulders or reach for my green wrap. Layers that mix and match are vital for travelling light.
See below for photos of the beautiful house I’ve been staying in and of the outfits I wore while I was here. They’re not exciting outfits but I was comfortable and appropriately dressed every day, even for lunch with some people I’d never met before.
Apologies for the quality of the outfit photos; they’re just taken on the run, so to speak. 😉
Some people have expressed interest in seeing how I managed to fit things into my case. See below for that. Note that I always roll my clothes rather than fold them, even at home. The clothes fit in alongside each other more easily and come out with fewer creases. Pictured are the two sides of my case and the whole thing together with my hat that sits between the two halves.
Missing from this image are the things I travelled in: jeans, jumper, boots and leather jacket. My small toiletries bag fits in my day pack along with my gadgets.

Next I’m off to the city again and it’s going to be cooler so I’ll get to wear a few more things. Stay tuned for how that works out as I carry on with my carry-on adventure!
